Reading (listening to) Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell has put me in a very magical mood! It's hilarious and I highly recommend to anyone who has a good deal of time on their hands, or if you can find the books on CD, a long road trip. Like to NY or something. I think it's 26 cds or close to it.

Furry Friday

I just decided what my dream job would be. I think it would be the most fun job to be a professional animal/pet photographer! If I was truly wonderful I could travel all over to take pet portraits and farm shots for magazines and ads and what not. I could play with them to get them to smile and act silly. I don't think I can think of anything as delightful. Really.

"As everyone knows that a dog dressed in clothes is still a dog." That's a line from the song "No Social" by The Shortwave Set. I thought it was appropriate because I'm going to share something pretty weird with you. Dogs Looking Like People is a bizarre site - more disturbing than cute or funny, but I enjoy it.

My favorite picture was an aberration from their usual fare (dogs duh).

Panda in business class! I wonder if he fell asleep on his neighbor's shoulder... I hope they showed Kung Fu Panda.

Another animalistic song (actually about werewolves but dogs/werewolves, who cares? not me) is Blitzen Trapper's Furr (click for music video). Beautiful.

This video by Lisa Hannigan reminds me of one of my favorite crafty girls (who I'm going ghost hunting with this weekend!) If you don't have the patience to watch it all at least fast forward to the end to see the most incredible paper cut-outs I've ever seen.



I love her because she reminds me of my mom. Her hair and style look exactly like pictures of my mom when she was young.

Banjos and buttons

I bought a random assortment of buttons at Wal-mart (they're top quality. really.) and I've been looking for button crafts. I really liked these.


I also really like bluegrass music (which I called bluesgrass for way too long).

I desperately want to go to a bluegrass festival! The excessive amount of cornbread, overalls, people of all ages, banjos and those large instruments with three (I think) strings that sound so plucky (probably because they are being plucked).

I prefer jazzier, more upbeat banjo music like The John Butler Trio or this rousing little number from Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

Anyone know any great bluegrass bands?

Me + You = Us

It turns out this whole time I've been living with the misunderstanding that I hate math. I don't hate math. I hate numbers. Freeways called the 101, the 65, the 805...these befuddle me and cause me to be late. Sunrise Hwy, on the other hand, brings a lovely image to mind and is easy to remember.

Here's some math I like.
The brilliance of More New Math. The little sky blue boxes provide, in very few words, a formula for life - a new way of looking at things.
Since naps are my favorite thing I thought this was a cheery way of looking at death (though not really accurate.)

Of course there is the hilarious web comic XKCD... (make sure to scroll over the comic for more funny). Topics range from insomnia to play pen balls.

Lastly, I remember singing and signing 2gether's pop hit to friends in 8th grade Algebra. Does
You + Me = Us (I Know my Calculus) bring back any memories for you?

Best Song Ever

Listening to Pandora day in and day out gets dull quickly. Most of the time I'm too lazy to go searching for new artist and after hearing the same bands and same songs over and over and over, well you get the point.

BUT.

I just added Steven Merritt based on an article I read about his style on Some Girls Wander blog, not his music and anyway I was pleased with his stuff.

BUT. Then.

This fantastic song, Don't Be Upset, by Jeffrey and Jack Lewis came on and I can't stop smiling. The music made my toes curl. It's fabulously unpredictable and uplifting. And I really think this is how boyfriends feel a good deal of the time but particularly at a certain time of the month.

This actually gives me an idea... anyone one want to StationGift each other (not sure why the link won't work, but it's on the bottom of the Pandora page)? Trade mixed stations (similar to the obsolete mix-tape and less hassle than CD burning). I would love to carefully craft one if you do the same! I have some people in particular in mind. You know who you are.




On the topic of music, I'm also having a love affair with Matt Costa - in particular his Songs We Sing album. It came out a while ago so I was wondering, does anyone have it?
