Missed Connections

So. I tend to share significant glances with strangers pretty often. It might have to do with the fact that I wear a lot of bright, sometimes clashing colors, or it might be because I have a tendency to stare. Also, I talk to strangers all the time...in line at the grocery store, while walking my dog, on the bus...point is I have a lot of missed connections in my life. How bout you?

I love the Missed Connections blog. The artist creates beautiful paintings depicting funny or intriguing "missed connections" posts on craigslist.

Here's how she describes it:
Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down.

After admiring her work I decided to make one of my own. This is an ode to Con Pane, the best sandwich shop in San Diego, and a special baker girl.

I was curious so I checked them out on craigslist myself where I found that some are sleazy, some are scary, but this one is incredibly sweet.

Craigslist favorite:
I asked you for directions when some ducks crossed the street - m4w - 28 (Venice Beach)

"The chance that you will be reading this is probably very slim but it's worth a shot. I asked you for directions to get to a parking garage in Venice Beach and in that moment three ducks crossed the street. You were really sweet and helped them cross safely. I followed your actions and you made me smile.Well thanks to your help my friend and I found the garage soon after but your candid tone of voice, helpful and friendly smile and your caring big eyes stayed on my mind for a long time that evening. I wanted to ask you for your name but I was shy (and kind of distracted by the ducks :). It was such a surreal meeting. Well I would love to see you again and I really hope you are reading this. Get in touch!
Jo :)"

I love this one.
