Sloff Bebes!

You should click here to see more of this.

And now I want one.
Side note. In the beginning of The Life of Pi there is a bit about sloths and it is wonderful.

A dog, I have always said, is prose; a cat is a poem. ~Jean Burden

And since I don't write poetry...

There has never been a cat
Who couldn't calm me down
By walking slowly
Past my chair.
~Rod McKuen

Cats are rather delicate creatures and they are subject to a good many ailments, but I never heard of one who suffered from insomnia. ~Joseph Wood Krutch

More cat quotes I enjoyed: A catless writer is almost inconceivable. It's a perverse taste, really, since it would be easier to write with a herd of buffalo in the room than even one cat; they make nests in the notes and bite the end of the pen and walk on the typewriter keys. ~Barbara Holland

If you are allergic to a thing, it is best not to put that thing in your mouth, particularly if the thing is cats. ~Lemony Snicket

Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a purpose. ~Garrison Keillor

Sometimes he curls up on my pillow during the night and I don't know he's there until I yawn and my mouth closes on a whisker. ~Astrid Alauda

A cat isn't fussy - just so long as you remember he likes his milk in the shallow, rose-patterned saucer and his fish on the blue plate. From which he will take it, and eat it off the floor. ~Arthur Bridges

And lastly,
There is, incidentally, no way of talking about cats that enables one to come off as a sane person. ~Dan Greenberg

which is why I won't add anything to these wise words.

Hamster love

I know I'm not allowed to have any more hamsters as I didn't have the best success with GusGus, Rory, Mimi or Golidlocks (actually she was a guinea pig) BUT after finding Hamstertracker.com and seeing so much hamster love... sigh.

Poor Lucy has cancer, but she's getting the best care.

Sigh...with pleasure...

*Keeping that nosicle moist
I am so frothy with joy that I've been sitting here, breathing hard, with a ridiculous grin on my face trying to keep the smile out of my voice when I answer the phone ("Good afternoon. Northrop and Johnson. This is Allyson.") while I come up with a way to express the total and complete bliss of my new favoritest website: Cuteness Overload.

Exploring this website is like bathing in melted chocolate. In a solid gold tub. In a tree house at the top of a redwood tree. In Forks. Sparkly vampires vying for your attention as they leap playfully in the treetops surrounding yours.

If that doesn't get you to look, I'm giving up with linking anything.

I know I'm a sucker but baby skunks, otters, kittehs and much much more. Cuteness abounds! And it will delight and melt even the crustiest of hearts. So much Floof! (those bunbuns are floofy in the best way)

And for those who don't understand the obsession with floofy animals, please watch this.

Cat in Bow Tie

This is such a great look for distinguished, yet saucy, cats. It's nice when people (and pets I guess) have a signature accessory...something you associate with that person. It makes you memorable ("Do you know that girl with the red cowboy boots?" "Oh yes! She might be perfect for the job!") and easy to shop for.

Bow ties have personality. Or felinality in this case I suppose. They have the rare and wonderful quality of being conservative and outrageous at the same time.

Isle of Pajaros

Did you know New Zealand used to be an island of birds? No snakes, spiders or bears...no animals in fact. Just birds. You could explore the thick vegetation barefoot or even naked and you wouldn't have to worry about angering anyone you accidentally stepped on. Very Edonistic.

So then some people came and some king gifted the people some sweet little deer which quickly overrun the islands forcing them to import some natural predators which in turn got out of hand and somehow in the process New Zealand ended up with lots of wild critters and way too many possums (or opossums if you prefer).

People screw everything up.

I wonder how the island smelled at the time. It might have had a rich jungly scent or the vegetation may have been overpowered by all the bird poo.
Aren't possums scary? It looks like the ferret in my header. That's my favorite photo face too. Wide open mouth (in excitement?).

Furry Friday

*Photos feature Moo - a very cool cat and a seriously flexible feline

I just decided what my dream job would be. I think it would be the most fun job to be a professional animal/pet photographer! If I was truly wonderful I could travel all over to take pet portraits and farm shots for magazines and ads and what not. I could play with them to get them to smile and act silly. I don't think I can think of anything as delightful. Really.

"As everyone knows that a dog dressed in clothes is still a dog." That's a line from the song "No Social" by The Shortwave Set. I thought it was appropriate because I'm going to share something pretty weird with you. Dogs Looking Like People is a bizarre site - more disturbing than cute or funny, but I enjoy it.

My favorite picture was an aberration from their usual fare (dogs duh).

Panda in business class! I wonder if he fell asleep on his neighbor's shoulder... I hope they showed Kung Fu Panda.

Another animalistic song (actually about werewolves but dogs/werewolves, who cares? not me) is Blitzen Trapper's Furr (click for music video). Beautiful.

Hug a biker.

"You take a look at us, and maybe your first reaction is to cross to the other side of the street. Just remember to look both ways before you do." Introducing Rescue Ink, a group of tough guys who rescue abused and neglected animals. I want one. Of the biker dudes. And of the kitties.

I wish goldfish were more playful...

I have a crush on a cat called Moo. He does all kinds of crazy things. More Moo to come almost certainly...

Is it just me or does that goldfish look oddly furry?

Belly button + smiley scar + drawn on eyes = best scar ever.

Tweet Tweet

Interesting article on student protesters in Moldova using Twitter to rally together. Moldova is between Romania and Ukraine. Not surprising that social media has power but still cool.

"Young people have increasingly used the Internet to mobilize politically; cellphones and text messages helped swell protests in Ukraine in 2004, and in Belarus in 2006." - NY Times.

Unrelated video that cracks me up endlessly.

(No Pomeranians were harmed in the making of this video)
*Video heading is How Samson earned two cookies. haha! I like pet names.

From the Flikr Blog which I've enjoyed a lot lately. That's also where I found this silly cat.

Seal Pups and Old Men

Everyone was such a big fan of my first "take a walk with me" post (not one comment.) that I decided to do another one featuring one of my favorite San Diego spots...La Jolla Children's Pool.

I didn't get any great shots of the baby seals but the light was beautiful and I got some cheesy beach pics to bring a tear to the eye of anyone still covered in snow (Sarah).

And that's Mandy in the photo.

The photo below should be on the cover of a Beach Boys album. A suave middle aged man pulled up in front of the office yesterday. He was riding in a souped up vintage convertible and listening to "Surfing Safari". It was so perfect. He had a whole lot of windblown salt and pepper hair.

This is my favorite photo. The stooped old man really walked like this. When we first spotted them, his pup was acting really strange. Trifle (adorable name!) was rubbing her bottom on the ground, pulling herself in circles. He explained that she didn't take her allergy medication and was itchy. It was the funniest thing but of course as soon as I tried to capture it she got distracted by our presence and wanted to be friendly.

Old Photos

This gives me the strange urge to go through my old photos and write captions on the bad ones...the ones that are out of focus or cropped strangely. That could be a pretty hilarious scrapbook!
Oh the things I think of when I have too much time on my hands...

Guess which of these photos I relate to most of all? While I do have a couch fetish and while I do think my ride is pretty sweet, it's not either of those.

This is a great photo of cats. It always makes me laugh.

Penguin Friday

I love this movie concept (still haven't seen it...still want to). When I'm happy my toes curl. When I'm REALLY happy my feet dance and kick. Happy feet.

Penguins are incredible. As I sit here in the office I wish one would shuffle over in a ray of sunshine and ask me to make him some copies.

You have to see this animated short called Lost and Found. Click the box in the left corner labeled Play. If you aren't smiling by the end of it you must be an alien with a diamond for a heart (or something equally hard).

If there is something funnier than an animated clay penguin hoodlum who has disguised himself as a chicken by putting a red glove on his head...it's a penguin hold up. If I was going to create a comic book villain it would be a well dressed Spanish mafioso called El Penguino. Yes, yes I know Batman or someone had a nemesis that was based on a penguin...maybe called The Penguin. Hmm.

Wallace and Gromit The Wrong Trousers is classic. This penguin bit is fun.
